On Sunday, March 13, 2011, in Madison, Wis., more than 30 people with People Organizing Wisconsin for Education and workers' Rights (P.O.W.E.R.) walk en route to the Wisconsin State Capitol during the final leg of the group's three-day, 84-mile P.O.W.E.R. Walk from Milwaukee to Madison. With the number of joining participants swelling at times, the group was marching in protest of a controversial collective bargaining bill signed by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker on March 11. The bill, which requires state employees to make higher contributions to their pensions and health insurance premiums, and that substantially cuts collective bargaining rights for union workers, was originally part of a broader budget repair bill.
